The Kasco 4400D is the largest of Kasco's standard 120V de-icers, designed for applications where maximum water movement is needed to protect docks, boats, piers and other waterfront structures from damaging winter ice.
Its 1 HP motor produces 42 pounds of thrust while operating on standard 120V power. The 4400D is a strong choice for larger docks, boat slips, more demanding winter conditions and installations where the smaller 1/2 or 3/4 HP models may not provide enough water movement.

Is the Kasco 4400D the Right De-Icer for You?
The 4400D produces the most thrust of Kasco's standard 120V de-icer models. That makes it particularly useful when you need to move more water or protect a larger or more demanding area.
Consider the 4400D for:
- Larger residential docks and piers
- Boats left in the water during freezing weather
- Larger boat slips and waterfront structures
- Colder climates and more demanding winter conditions
- Applications requiring greater directional water movement
- Installations where standard 120V power is preferred
Bigger isn't automatically better, however. If you're protecting a smaller dock or a relatively compact area, the 1/2 HP 2400D or 3/4 HP 3400D may provide all the water movement you need while using less electricity.
Vertical or Angled Installation?
The position of the 4400D has a major effect on the size and shape of the area it can protect.
A vertical installation directs water upward and generally creates a more circular area of open water around the de-icer. This works well when the area needing protection surrounds the unit.
An angled installation directs water outward and creates a longer open-water pattern. This is often the better approach along docks, around boats and in slips where water needs to move in a particular direction.
The goal isn't simply to make the biggest hole in the ice.
A properly positioned de-icer directs moving water toward the dock, pilings, boat or other structure you're trying to protect.

Three Ways to Mount the 4400D
Suspension Ropes
The simplest installation is to suspend the 4400D using the two included 20-foot suspension ropes. This is an economical approach beneath docks and boats where secure attachment points are available.
Universal Dock Mount
Kasco's Universal Mount allows you to adjust the depth and angle of the 4400D. This provides considerably more control over where the water is directed and is especially useful along docks, pilings and boat slips.
Industrial Dock Mount
Kasco's Industrial Mount provides a heavier-duty adjustable mounting option for demanding dock and marina installations. Dock mounts are sold separately.

The de-icer ships assembled and ready for installation. Dock mounts and automatic temperature/timer controls are available separately.
Should You Add a De-Icer Controller?
An automatic controller can reduce unnecessary operation during periods when de-icing isn't needed. Kasco offers controls that can operate the de-icer according to temperature or according to both temperature and time.
This can be particularly worthwhile with a 1 HP de-icer. Rather than operating continuously throughout the winter, the unit can be controlled so it operates when freezing conditions require it.
2400D vs. 3400D vs. 4400D
The three standard Kasco de-icers use the same basic operating principle but provide progressively greater thrust and water movement.
- 2400D – 1/2 HP, 31 lbs. thrust: A good starting point for smaller docks, boats and targeted residential applications.
- 3400D – 3/4 HP, 37 lbs. thrust: A strong middle choice for additional water movement while remaining on standard 120V power.
- 4400D – 1 HP, 42 lbs. thrust: The maximum-water-movement choice in Kasco's standard 120V lineup for larger or more demanding applications.
For complicated docks, multiple slips or marina applications, two or more strategically positioned de-icers can sometimes provide better protection than relying on one unit. Proper placement and water direction are just as important as horsepower.
Installation & Safety
Proper placement depends on water depth, the structure being protected and the desired direction of water movement. Always follow Kasco's installation and electrical requirements for your particular application.
The 4400D has a minimum operating depth of 4 feet. Kasco notes that operation in shallower water is possible, but doing so may disturb bottom sediment.
De-icers intentionally create open water and areas of thin ice. Clearly mark or restrict access to the de-iced area where people, pets, snowmobiles or other traffic could encounter unsafe ice.
