Ice Eater P1000 1 HP Pond & Dock De-Icer

The Ice Eater P1000 is the largest model in the standard Ice Eater de-icer lineup, designed for applications where maximum water movement is needed to protect docks, boats, piers and other waterfront structures from damaging winter ice.

Powered by a 1 HP motor and moving approximately 1,400 gallons of water per minute, the P1000 is well suited to larger docks, bigger boats, marina applications and more demanding winter conditions where a smaller de-icer may not provide enough circulation.

When Does the P1000 Make Sense?

The P1000 is designed for applications where moving a larger volume of water is important. Its 1 HP motor and approximately 1,400 GPM flow rate make it the logical step up from the P500 and P750 when you're protecting a larger or more demanding area.

Consider the P1000 for:

• Larger residential docks and piers
• Larger boats left in the water during freezing weather
• Marinas and commercial waterfront applications
• Multiple dock pilings or larger boat slips
• Colder climates and more demanding winter conditions
• Applications requiring maximum Ice Eater water movement
• Freshwater or saltwater installations

How the Ice Eater P1000 Works

The P1000 doesn't use a heating element to melt ice. Its axial-flow propeller draws relatively warmer water from below and directs that water toward the surface. Continuous circulation helps prevent ice formation and reduces pressure from expanding and shifting ice around docks, pilings and boats.

A heavy-duty PVC Venturi-style shroud surrounds the propeller and helps concentrate and direct the water flow. This directional design allows the moving water to be aimed toward the structure requiring protection rather than simply circulating water in every direction.

How Much Open Water Will the P1000 Maintain?

Airmax markets the Ice Eater family as capable of maintaining substantial areas of open water, but actual de-icing performance varies considerably with conditions. Air temperature, water depth, mounting depth and angle, currents, surrounding structures and other site factors all influence the amount of open water created.

For that reason, we recommend sizing and positioning the P1000 according to the dock, boat or structure requiring protection rather than relying on a maximum open-water diameter alone.

The objective isn't necessarily to create the biggest possible opening in the ice. Effective de-icing means directing enough moving water toward the structures that need protection.

Two Ways to Mount the P1000

Suspension Ropes

The P1000 can be suspended from a dock, pier or other secure structure using the included suspension ropes. Suspension is a simple and economical installation method when suitable attachment points are available.

Adjustable Dock Mount

The P1000 is compatible with the Power House Large Dock Mount. The mount allows you to control the depth, direction and angle of the Ice Eater, making it easier to direct water toward the exact area requiring protection.

The dock mount provides 360-degree positioning and angle adjustment in 20-degree increments from horizontal to vertical. This is particularly useful for larger docks, boat slips and marina applications where controlling the direction of water movement is important.

The Ice Eater arrives assembled and ready for installation. The adjustable dock mount, thermostat and other accessories are available separately.

Freshwater & Saltwater Use

The P1000 can be used in both freshwater and saltwater applications. A sacrificial aluminum anode helps protect the unit against corrosion and should be inspected periodically and replaced as it deteriorates, particularly in saltwater installations.

Additional corrosion protection may be appropriate where electrolysis or severe saltwater exposure is a concern.

Should You Add a Thermostat?

An optional Power House thermostat can automatically operate the Ice Eater as air temperatures fall and rise. Instead of running continuously during warmer periods, the P1000 can remain ready to operate when freezing conditions require it.

Automatic temperature control can be particularly worthwhile with a 1 HP de-icer, helping reduce unnecessary run time and electrical consumption throughout the winter.

P500 vs. P750 vs. P1000

Choosing the right Ice Eater depends on the size and configuration of the area being protected, winter severity and how the unit will be positioned.

• P500 – 1/2 HP: A versatile choice for smaller to moderate residential docks, boats and targeted de-icing applications.
• P750 – 3/4 HP: A strong middle choice for larger docks and applications requiring additional water movement.
• P1000 – 1 HP: The high-capacity Ice Eater for larger docks, bigger boats, marinas and more demanding winter applications.

For complicated dock systems or multiple slips, two strategically positioned de-icers may sometimes protect the structures more effectively than one larger unit. Proper placement and water direction are just as important as horsepower.

Installation & Safety

The P1000 can operate in relatively shallow water, but proper placement is important. Position the unit so moving water reaches the dock, pilings, boat or other structure you're trying to protect.

Always connect the de-icer to a properly installed GFCI-protected circuit and follow the manufacturer's electrical and installation instructions.

De-icers intentionally create open water and areas of thin ice. Clearly mark or restrict access to the de-iced area where people, pets, snowmobiles or other traffic could encounter unsafe ice.
