Kasco 3400D 3/4 HP Pond & Dock De-Icer

The Kasco 3400D is a 3/4 HP de-icer designed to protect docks, boats, piers and other waterfront structures from damaging winter ice. Its high-thrust propeller moves relatively warmer water from below toward the surface, helping prevent ice formation in the area where protection is needed.

With more water-moving capacity than the 1/2 HP 2400D while still operating on standard 120V power, the 3400D is an excellent choice for many residential docks, larger boats and more demanding winter de-icing applications.

Is the Kasco 3400D the Right De-Icer for You?

The 3400D sits in the middle of Kasco's standard de-icer lineup. Its 3/4 HP motor produces 37 pounds of thrust, giving it more water-moving capacity than the 1/2 HP 2400D without requiring 208-240V electrical service.

Consider the 3400D for:

• Residential docks and piers
• Boats left in the water during freezing weather
• Larger boat slips and waterfront structures
• Targeted protection around dock pilings
• Colder locations where additional water movement is desirable
• Applications where standard 120V power is preferred

For smaller, less demanding applications, the 1/2 HP 2400D may be sufficient. For larger areas, severe winter conditions or applications where maximum water movement is needed, consider the 1 HP 4400D.

Vertical or Angled Installation?

How the 3400D is positioned has a major effect on the shape of the open-water area.

A vertical installation directs water upward and generally creates a more circular area around the de-icer. This can work well when the structure or area being protected surrounds the unit.

An angled installation directs water outward and can create a longer open-water pattern. This is particularly useful along docks, around boats and in slips where you want to move water in a specific direction.

Three Ways to Mount the 3400D

Suspension Ropes

The simplest installation is to suspend the 3400D using the two included 20-foot mooring ropes. This is an economical option beneath docks and boats where secure attachment points are available.

Universal Dock Mount

Kasco's Universal Mount provides greater control over the depth, direction and angle of the de-icer. This is especially useful when you want to direct water along dock pilings, through a boat slip or toward another specific area.

Industrial Dock Mount

Kasco's Industrial Mount provides another adjustable mounting option for demanding dock and marina installations. Dock mounts are sold separately from the de-icer.

Should You Add a De-Icer Controller?

An automatic controller can reduce unnecessary operation during periods when de-icing isn't needed. Kasco offers controls that can operate the de-icer according to temperature or according to both temperature and time.

For many seasonal installations, a thermostatic controller is a worthwhile addition because the de-icer can remain ready for freezing conditions without operating continuously through warmer weather.

2400D vs. 3400D vs. 4400D

Choosing between Kasco's three 120V de-icers should be based on the application and winter conditions rather than horsepower alone.

• 2400D – 1/2 HP, 31 lbs. thrust: A good starting point for smaller docks, boats and targeted residential applications.
• 3400D – 3/4 HP, 37 lbs. thrust: A strong middle choice when you want additional water movement while staying with 120V power.
• 4400D – 1 HP, 42 lbs. thrust: The largest standard 120V Kasco de-icer for applications requiring maximum water movement.

For complicated docks and marinas, two strategically positioned de-icers can sometimes protect the structure more effectively than one larger unit. The objective is to direct moving water where protection is needed rather than simply create the largest possible opening in the ice.

Installation & Safety

Kasco recommends positioning de-icers approximately 4 to 6 feet below the surface and at least 1 foot above the bottom when conditions allow. Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and electrical requirements for your particular installation.

De-icers intentionally create areas of open water and thin ice. Clearly mark or restrict access to the de-iced area where people, pets, snowmobiles or other traffic could encounter unsafe ice.
