The Kasco 2400D is a compact 1/2 HP de-icer designed to protect docks, boats, piers and other waterfront structures from damaging winter ice. Instead of heating the water, the 2400D uses a high-thrust propeller to move relatively warmer water from below toward the surface, helping maintain an area of open water where you need it.
The 2400D is a good choice for smaller residential docks, boats and targeted de-icing applications where the additional water movement of a larger 3/4 or 1 HP unit isn't necessary.

Is the Kasco 2400D the Right De-Icer for You?
The 2400D is Kasco's 1/2 HP de-icer and produces 31 pounds of thrust. It's particularly well suited to applications where you need to protect a defined area rather than maintain a very large opening in the ice.
Consider the 2400D for:
- Residential docks and piers
- Boats left in the water during freezing weather
- Smaller slips and waterfront structures
- Targeted ice prevention around dock pilings
- Areas where 120V electrical service is available
For larger docks, marinas, extremely cold climates or applications requiring a larger area of moving water, consider stepping up to a Kasco 3400D 3/4 HP or 4400D 1 HP de-icer.
Vertical or Angled Installation?
How you position a de-icer can be just as important as horsepower.
A vertical installation directs water upward and generally creates a more circular area of open water. This can work well when the area you're protecting surrounds the de-icer.
An angled installation directs the water outward and can create a longer open-water pattern. This is often useful along docks, around boats and in slips where you want to move water in a particular direction.
Don't size a de-icer by horsepower alone.
Air temperature, water depth, mounting angle, dock configuration and obstructions
all affect the amount of open water a de-icer can maintain.

Three Ways to Mount the 2400D
Suspension Ropes
The simplest installation is to suspend the 2400D using the two included 20-foot mooring ropes. This is an economical option for installations beneath docks and boats where secure attachment points are available.
Universal Dock Mount
Kasco's Universal Mount provides more control over the position, depth and angle of the de-icer. A dock mount is especially useful when you want to direct water along dock pilings, a boat slip or another specific area.
Industrial Dock Mount
Kasco's Industrial Mount provides another adjustable mounting option for demanding dock and marina installations. Dock mounts are sold separately from the de-icer.

Should You Add a De-Icer Controller?
A controller can prevent the de-icer from running unnecessarily during warmer weather. Kasco offers controls that can operate the de-icer according to temperature, or according to both temperature and time.
For many seasonal installations, adding an automatic controller is a worthwhile way to reduce unnecessary run time while still having the de-icer available when freezing conditions develop.
2400D vs. 3400D vs. 4400D
The 2400D isn't automatically the best choice simply because the area looks small. Winter temperature and installation conditions can substantially change the amount of water any de-icer can keep open.
- 2400D – 1/2 HP: A good starting point for smaller docks, boats and targeted residential applications.
- 3400D – 3/4 HP: Produces more thrust and is a good step up for larger areas or more demanding winter conditions.
- 4400D – 1 HP: Kasco's largest standard de-icer, intended for applications requiring maximum water movement and larger areas of protection.
Sometimes two strategically positioned de-icers will protect a complex dock or marina more effectively than one larger unit. The objective is to move water around the structures that need protection, not simply create the largest possible opening.
Installation & Safety
Always follow Kasco's installation instructions and electrical requirements. De-icers intentionally create open water and areas of thin ice. Clearly mark or restrict access to the de-iced area where people, pets, snowmobiles or other traffic could encounter unsafe ice.
The 2400D has a recommended minimum operating depth of 4 feet. Kasco notes that the unit can operate in shallower water, but doing so may disturb bottom sediment.
